Monty’s Sandwich Co. was created to fill a void and bring a different kind of sandwich to St. Louis. One created with meats that are roasted in house not processed in a factory, breads that are baked locally by artisan bakers and produce that is hand picked to insure the finest quality.  Monty’s is owned by two local St. Louisans who were tired of not being able to find a real sandwich shop.  There are plenty of places to get a sandwich but most of them simply buy processed lunch meat, put it on sub standard bread, and call it a day. We are so serious about sandwiches that we chose the name Monty as a tribute to John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich who is rumored to have invented the sandwich. Legend has it that John Montagu loved to gamble and one night he did not have time for a formal meal during a game, so he would ask his servants to bring him slices of meat between two slices of bread. This habit became well known among his gambling friends and thus the ‘sandwich’ was born.

At Monty’s we have one goal and that is to make the best sandwich we can with the finest ingredients.  We hope that you think so too.
